Closed Circuit Cooling Towers

Closed-circuit cooling towers operate by utilizing the same evaporation principle as open-type coolers, where the forced evaporation of a small amount of water reduces the temperature of the main water mass. A closed-loop cooler consists of two separate fluid circuits: one in which fluid is recirculated inside smooth tube coils (the primary circuit), and another in which recirculating water (the secondary circuit) is sprayed over the top of the coils. Air, drawn in by fans, comes into contact with the sprayed water to provide evaporative cooling similar to that of an open-circuit cooling tower; however, the process fluid never comes into direct contact with the air, ensuring hydraulic separation.
